A balance sheet template for small business shows what the business owns, what it owes and what is left for the owner on one date. If it doesn't balance, something in the books needs a look.

This free Balance Sheet Template from LiveFixPro Bookkeeping is a simple form for your assets, liabilities and owner's equity. It totals each section and checks that assets equal liabilities plus equity.

Entries stay on your device. The template doesn't upload or store anything, and it works offline once the page has loaded.

What to gather

  • Balance sheet date, for example "October 31, 2026."

  • Balances as of that date, for example from your QuickBooks® Balance Sheet report, in six sections. Rename lines, delete the ones you don't need and add your own.

  • Current assets. Cash and bank accounts, accounts receivable, inventory, prepaid expenses and other current assets.

  • Fixed assets. Equipment, vehicles, furniture and fixtures, and accumulated depreciation.

  • Other assets. Deposits and other long-term assets.

  • Current liabilities. Accounts payable, credit cards, the current part of loans, customer deposits and other current liabilities.

  • Long-term liabilities. Long-term loans and other long-term liabilities.

  • Owner's equity. Owner contributions, retained earnings from earlier years, net profit this year and owner draws.

Lines marked "Less:" reduce their section. Enter them as positive numbers. Curious how it looks filled in? Load a sample does it in one tap. Sample balances are examples, not real figures.

What the template shows

  • Summary cards with the totals and a clear status: whether the balance sheet balances.

  • A section-by-section table with subtotals for each section.

  • A ratio, current assets divided by current liabilities, worked out from your numbers.

Print the sheet or take a CSV copy. In the CSV copy, a line name that starts with =, +, - or @ gets an apostrophe in front so a spreadsheet shows it as plain text.

How the check is calculated

Assets = liabilities plus owner's equity. Fixed assets are shown net of any "Less:" line you enter. Think of the result as a planning summary rather than a finished financial statement; an accountant may adjust items.

If it doesn't balance

  • Check that every bank and card account is reconciled to its statement.

  • Look for a missing account, such as a loan or a credit card.

  • Confirm "Net profit this year" matches your Profit and Loss report for the same date.

  • Check the sign on owner draws and accumulated depreciation.

Using it with your other reports

A balance sheet is a snapshot on one date. Your Profit and Loss covers a period, and your cash flow statement explains the change in cash. Our Profit and Loss Template and Cash Flow Statement Template are built to be used alongside it.

Where the template stops

The template adds up what you enter and nothing more. It has no link to QuickBooks, it doesn't audit your entries, and it offers no accounting or legal advice.

Where this fits

The balance sheet is one of three statements that work together. For how it lines up with the cash flow statement and the trial balance, read our financial statements for small business guide.

FAQ

What is a balance sheet template for small business?

A layout that lists what the business owns (assets), what it owes (liabilities) and what is left for the owner (equity) on one date, and checks that assets equal liabilities plus equity.

What does it mean if my balance sheet doesn't balance?

Something is missing or entered wrongly. Check that every account is reconciled, look for a missing account such as a loan or a credit card, and confirm net profit this year matches your Profit and Loss.

How do I enter the "Less:" lines?

As positive numbers. Lines marked "Less:", such as accumulated depreciation and owner draws, reduce their section.

Is this a finished financial statement?

No. Treat it as a planning summary; your accountant may adjust items.

Is my balance sheet information sent or stored?

No. Entries stay in your browser; nothing is uploaded, sent or stored, and a CSV download is how you keep a copy.

Check your balance now
